COLLEGE COACHES: 2025 WPIAL Northern Showcase
In 2024, the Planets fell one game short of the WPIAL Championship once again losing to the McKeesport Tigers in the WPIAL Semi-Finals. This season, Coach K begins his 4th year as Head Coach of the Mars Planets and his 12th year overall as a Head Coach. Coach K has a career record as head coach of 107-32 (.769 win percentage).
In 2023, Coach Kasperowicz led the Fightin’ Planets to one of the best seasons in school history coming up just one game short of the WPIAL Championship. The Planets ended up 10-3 losing to the eventual state champions Aliquippa in the WPIAL Semi-Finals. Along the way, Coach K. picked up his 100th win faster than any WPIAL coach ever.
Coach K spent the 2021 season winning an ACC Championship as an assistant coach with the Pitt Panthers. In his previous 8 seasons as Head Coach at Pine-Richland HS (PA), Coach Kasperowicz won 4 WPIAL Championships (2014, 2017, 2018, 2020), 2 PA State Championships (2017, 2020), 1 WPIAL Runner-Up (2019) and 1 PA State Championship Runner-Up (2014). Coach Kasperowicz spent his first 11 years as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at his alma mater North Hills High School (PA), with each year getting the team to the 9 win mark.
Coach Kasperowicz was the National Federation of High School (NFHS) Coach of the Year in 2018. He was the PA State Coach of the Year, the Post-Gazette AAAA Coach of the Year, and the PA Football News AAAA and PA Football writers AAAA Coach of the Year in 2017 & 2014. Coach graduated from North Hills High School in 1994 where he was a 4-year starter at Quarterback and Safety. He led the Indians to a WPIAL AAAA Championship and the school’s first & only PA State Championship. Considered as the best all-around player in WPIAL history, Eric had 6,869 career yards and 20 career interceptions as a defensive back. In 1994, along with Peyton Manning, Eric was selected as a Parade All-American. Eric was also selected as the USA Today and Associated Press Pennsylvania Player of the year and was the starting Quarterback in the prestigious Big 33 Game (PA vs. OH), was later voted as the All Time Greatest Player in Western PA (WPIAL) beating out just great sports luminaries such as Mike Ditka, Tony Dorsett, Dan Marino and Lavar Arrington. All of these awards culminated with his 2014 induction into the North Hills HS Hall of Fame and the very prestigious WPIAL Hall of Fame.
Upon his graduation from North Hills High School, he attended the University of Pittsburgh on a football scholarship lettering all 4 years and was the team’s starting outside linebacker his last two years. After an injury-plagued career and a few NFL tryouts later, Eric was able to return to his high school alma mater to begin his coaching career. Coach Kasperowicz holds a Master’s of Movement Science degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
Coach Kasperowicz lives in Mars with his wife Jennifer, and his three children, Ella (20), Eric (18) and Emlyn (15).
Eric Kasperowicz begins his 4th year as Head Coach at Mars in 2025 and his 27th season coaching overall.
